Light At The End Of The Tunnel for Brisbane Commuters Increasing traffic congestion, environmental awareness and the current economic climate has led to a local small business owner devising the perfect commuter solution. Pedal power has long been the answer to avoiding bumper to bumper congestion and reducing our carbon footprint but we don’t all have the stamina to ride 10 or 20kms to work (nor does it appeal to our colleagues when they’re greeted in the morning by a sweaty cyclist). Owner of Good Concepts, Mark Pelmore, believes he has the answer. According to Mark electric bicycles are the way of the future. ![]() “Our range of electric bicycles offers commuters the choice to commute with no carbon emissions, no traffic hassles and no fuel, license or registration expenses”, Mark said. “My commute to work from Bardon to our shop in West End takes me 18 minutes everyday regardless of road works, accidents and any other peak hour woes. And it only costs me 5 cents to recharge my battery every 50kms.” The EMTB electric mountain bike comfortably travels at up to 30km/h without peddling. (You can choose to pedal while the engine is engaged or you can press a button and turn the surprisingly quiet engine off and use pedal power alone.) The range of electric bikes available caters for all ages and all levels of fitness. From a tricycle with a large carry basket (suitable for older people or couriers) to a mountain bike or a fold-away version (great or caravans and yachts), Mark believes Good Concepts has the bike to suit everybody. “Our customers have varied requirements and our goal is to find the right vehicle for them that they feel comfortable with. We tend to see the very active mobile people opting for the mountain bikes or classic ‘mantis’. Just the other day a lady who is in remission and not feeling the energy she used to, purchased the folding ‘sherpa’ to take on her caravanning holiday so she could go riding with her husband and keep up. We also had a young gentleman who (through a car accident) lost the use of one leg, purchase an electric bike.” It’s stories like these that inspire Good Concepts to offer an extensive range of bicycles that suit every commuter or leisure rider. They also stock and provide a full installation service on electric conversion kits for people who already have an existing bike that’s not quite ready to be relegated to the back of the shed. So, to avoid the peak hour traffic blues or to just have some affordable, environmentally-friendly fun, an electric bike could be the answer. Good Concepts is located at 26 Horan St, West End and is open Monday to Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9-2. |
